The 58 runners and walkers who participated in Saturday’s 2nd annual Wright Stuff Challenge 5K/10K were treated to a beautiful summer day and perfect (albeit warm) conditions. The event was a fabulous success and the Wright Stuff Community Foundation would like to thank everyone who made the fundraiser possible.

Uncompahgre Medical Center, West End Pizzeria, Grand Ave. Parts/Car Quest, Spydor Wood Products and 4R Storage provided funding for promoting and purchasing prizes for the event. Tomboy Soap Company contributed lip balm for the custom fabric goody bags, which were purchased and printed by Alpine Bank. Commemorative metal water bottles from The Coach’s Mother also filled the bags, along with donated Lara bars and Alpine Bank pens.

Anne Reeser from The Watch Newspapers created our beautiful poster. Telluride Alpine Lodging and Alpine Bank donated overnight stays in Telluride for our 10K male and female winners; other prizes were donated by Happy Belly Deli, The Little Oasis Spa and Telluride Sports. Clarks Market provided oranges and apples to hungry runners and walkers, Montrose Water Factory provided cups and water for hydration stations, and participants were kept safely on-route thanks to assistance from the Norwood Marshal’s Office, Norwood Ambulance, Norwood Firefighters and the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Department.

Thank you to San Miguel County Road and Bridge for providing signs and road markers, particularly District Supervisor Bill Wilson, who went above and beyond; and also to the San Miguel County Fairgrounds for donating use of the Pig Palace and its bathroom. We also appreciated assistance from Gen Roach and the Norwood Farm and Craft Market for sharing their space and creating such a festive post-race atmosphere. Dane Robinson’s microphone became a crucial tool for announcing the Wright Stuff Challenge results (which are posted online at

An extra special thank you goes to returning master organizers Jennifer Dinsmore and Jen Feeser, who contributed countless hours and expertise toward organizing the event. Our race-day volunteers were equally essential: Angela Watkins, Audrey Morton, Katie Alexander, Alison Myers, Carla Slate, Ken Haynes, Kristen Parrino, Gretchen Wells, Ruth Duffy, Mike Feeser, and several other invaluable helpers.

Most importantly, thank you to all the runners and walkers who signed on to the Wright Stuff Challenge, which grossed just over $2,000 toward the Wright Stuff’s programs for rural youth and community, including Prime Time Early Learning Center, Explore summer camps, and adult GED classes. We hope to build on the success of this year’s race, drawing even more participants in 2011.(If you have any comments for next year, please log on to
