In a year that seems destined to go down in the history books marked by economic gloom and environmental disaster, I cannot tell you how uplifting it was for me, for our faculty and especially for our students to once again see such selfless acts of generosity on display in the Palm Theatre at our annual Senior Awards Night. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: Telluride is an amazing community precisely because people like these donors take the very notion of community so directly to heart.
The dollars donated for scholarships will have a very real and lasting impact on our students’ futures – and, by extension, on ours. Students who received scholarships this year plan to go on to be, among other things: doctors, engineers, actors/performers, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, a songwriter, a resort manager, a paramedic, a Merchant Marine, an archaeologist, a business administrator, a pilot, a writer, an athletic trainer, an attorney and a nutritionist; in other words, contributing members of society. I can’t thank the donors enough for the investment they’ve made today in all of our tomorrows!
Please check out the ad I’ve placed in this paper listing all of this year’s participants in the local scholarship program. And please try to make a point to seek out the donors and let them know how much you appreciate their commitment to the youth of Telluride.
