The Outside Television Film Festival, to air every night at prime time, will showcase leading independent films from the worlds of exploration, adventure, sports, culture and nature. Films from Mountainfilm's festival will make up most of the series' content.
"We love the depth and breadth of Mountainfilm's programming," said Rob Faris, Outside Television's Senior Vice President of Programming & Production "This partnership is a significant step in making Outside Television the ultimate TV destination for adventure films and documentaries. We're thrilled to be working with Mountainfilm and to have the opportunity to share the festival, the films, and its important themes with our audiences all over the country."
Telluride Mountainfilm festival began over 30 years ago as a venue to showcase climbing and mountaineering movies. It has grown to become a major proponent of adventure, awareness and activism. Its mission is to educate and inspire audiences about issues that matter. The festival takes place every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, while maintaining a year-round presence through its international traveling arm, known as Mountainfilm on Tour, and an in-classroom educational program, Making Movies that Matter, designed for middle and high school students.
Peter Kenworthy, Mountainfilm's executive director, said the partnership with Outside Television will provide a vital new outlet for films that screen at the festival. "This is a great opportunity to expose films and filmmakers from our festival to a large and sophisticated viewership that has a real appetite for our kind of content. And, in the process, we will garner a whole new level of national recognition that should aid us immeasurably in our efforts to help important stories be told – and seen. We're extremely excited to be collaborating."
