MONTROSE – An 80-year-old man was found dead Saturday morning in the parking lot of Russell Stover Candies store in Montrose. He apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Cmdr. Gene Lillard, spokesman for the Montrose Police Department, said the body of the man was found at 6:45 a.m. on April 17 in the candy manufacturer’s parking lot at 2185 Stover Ave. His body was found next to his silver truck, Lillard said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Thomas Canfield, Montrose County Coroner.

Lillard said the man had terminal cancer. An autopsy will be performed, as is customary in such cases, he said.
