FORT COLLINS – New Belgium Brewing, maker of Fat Tire Amber Ale, comes to Telluride Ski Mountain Saturday, March 13, with its Scavenger Hunt Series.
Skiers, snowboarders and foragers should grab their favorite costume and join in on the yearly Telluride Scavenger Hunt (the first of New Belgium’s four-part Scavenger Hunt Series, with subsequent in Taos, March 21; Loveland, April 3 and Mammoth, April 10.
Ten bucks buys scavengers a colorful day of fundraising, riddle-solving, snow-sleuthing and sustainable schooling (just bring your ski pass or purchase a lift ticket). New Belgium created the event four years ago and proceeds from the Telluride Scavenger Hunt will go to the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program, a nonprofit organization that helps to enrich the lives of people with disabilities through educational and recreational opportunities.
“How often do you really visit ski resorts in outlandish costumes and laugh your way all the way down the hill?” asked Mike Keller, New Belgium Brewing’s National Festivarian. “If you’ve experienced Tour de Fat in the summertime but haven’t clued in to our winter series, this is your year.”
“Imagine a snow day in the Colorado outdoors, wearing a hot pink wig and a tutu, bonding with friends, and raising money and awareness,” continued Keller. “That, my friend, is the Telluride Scavenger Hunt.”
Teams with the most points at the end of the search party will receive prizes at the après-ski event from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. The after-party will also include dancing, costume trading and giveaways from New Belgium and Telluride Ski Resort. Each participant receives a New Belgium pint glass made specifically for the event.
Registration starts at 9 a.m.; the scavenger hunt runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Groups of anywhere from two to six people will search for both stationary and moving clues that revolve around New Belgium Brewing, Telluride Ski Resort, sustainability and the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program. It is likely that participants will come across some peculiar sights such as Bigfoot, a ski “bunny” and funky chickens, so bring your imagination.
And a camera.
The Scavenger Hunt Series Schedule:
