Junior Michal Fagrelius picked up the lone goal for the Demons, who finished 5-4-3 overall in coach Chuck Siefken’s second season.
On the year, the Demons tallied 15 goals with four shutout victories. Defensively, they gave up 14 goals and were held scoreless five times, including two scoreless ties. The team had two games – Grand Junction (j.v.) and Durango (j.v.) – cancelled because of inclement weather.
In the five-team 3A Southwestern League, Pagosa Springs, Bayfield and Ridgway each finished 3-3-2 in the standings behind champion Telluride (8-0). Ignacio finished last at 0-8.
Ridgway/Ouray’s league wins came over Bayfield (2-0) and Ignacio (1-0 and 3-0) with the losses coming to Telluride (2-0 and 5-0) and Pagosa Springs (2-1). The ties were both scoreless against Pagosa Springs and Bayfield.
Qualifying to the postseason out of the Southwestern League were Telluride and Pagosa Springs. Telluride has earned a bye in the regional tournament by winning the league and will open the 14th annual 3A state tournament today or Wednesday against an opponent to be determined. Pagosa Springs earned the regional berth but lost to Manitou Springs 4-0 on Saturday.
Ridgway/Ouray’s seniors this year included Katie Craig, Kim Cramp, Alex Durham, Kirsten Hitchcox, Hannah Hollenbeck, Emily Merkle, Amanda Peters, and Lauren Taylor; juniors were Louisa Clark, Fagrelius, Cory Hibbard, Betsy Stovicek, Sam Willits, and Kelsey Winfrey. The team’s sophomores were Willa Johnson and Rissa Robinson; and freshmen were Christine Anderson, Savannah Davis, Morgan Jossi, Bethany LaSala, and Julie Sirotek.
A year ago, the Demons finished 7-5-1 overall.
