Eight Candidates, Three Seats in April Election for Montrose City Council

MONTROSE – The names of eight City of Montrose residents will appear on the mail-in ballot for the April 6 election for three council seats – one seat each for four-year terms on District I and II, and one seat for the two-year At Large seat vacated by Erica Lewis Kennedy, who announced she will not run.

Candidate petitions have been verified for (District I) Brent Wallace, Thomas A. Smits and Jesse Bailey and (District II) Carol A. McDermott, Bill Brougham and Pat Treacy.

Longtime political adversaries – former Montrose County Commissioner/Montrose City Councilmember Bill Patterson and former State Representative Ray Rose – are vying for two-year At Large seat.

Rose defeated Patterson in 2002 in a bid for state office. A drawing will be held to determine the order in which order the candidates’ names appear at Montrose City Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m.

The City of Montrose regular general election will be conducted by mail ballot on April 6,

2010; voters must be registered at the Montrose County Clerk’s office at 320 South First Street by Monday, March 8. Ballots will be mailed to all active registered voters in the City of Montrose during the week of March 15; voters who do not receive a ballot should contact the Montrose City Clerk’s office at 240-1430.

Ballots may be returned by mail or deposited in ballot boxes at City Hall, by Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m.
