RIDGWAY – The Ridgway/Ouray high school girls’ soccer team split its 3A Southwestern Conference games last week, defeating Ignacio 1-0 before falling to Pagosa Spring 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, senior Amanda Peters provided the game-winner in the second half as she popped a shot over the head of the Ignacio goalkeeper, preserving victory on Friday, April 18 at Solar Ranch.

The next day, the Demons went on the road and fell by a goal to Pagosa Springs, a team Ridgway/Ouray played to a scoreless tie on March 21. Junior Michal Fagrelius tallied the lone goal for Ridgway/Ouray on Saturday.

The Demons (3-3-2 overall, 2-2-2 conference), who had their game Tuesday, April 15 against Durango (j.v.) cancelled, will return to action today, Tuesday, April 22, when they travel to play Grand Junction to face the Tigers’ junior varsity squad (4 p.m.).

On Thursday, April 24, Ridgway/Ouray will travel to Ignacio to make up its postponed game from Friday, April 18. Then, the Demons will travel to conference-leader Telluride on Saturday, April 26.

Telluride (6-3, 6-0) returns to action today at 4A Montezuma-Cortez after an 18-day layoff from competition due to spring break. The Miners’ three losses have come to 4A Montrose (5-1), and 5A Grand Junction (5-2) and Durango (2-1). The Miners have dominated in the conference having outscored their opponents a combined 28-1 and haven’t allowed a goal since the second half of a 3-1 win over Pagosa Springs on March 14.

Ridgway/Ouray lost to Telluride 2-0 on March 18 in Montrose.

The Demons are slated to conclude regular-season action on Tuesday, April 29 at Durango against the Demons’ junior varsity.
