The Ouray County Arts Association is celebrating its Golden Anniversary, and we invite you to join our celebration. OCAA is a nonprofit organization established to encourage the visual arts in Ouray County. Our mission statement is to provide information about art-related events in Ouray County; to encourage appreciation, enthusiasm, participation and support of the visual arts; to encourage local artists by providing a venue for presenting their work; and to award scholarships to deserving students in Ouray County. We depend on your generous support and frankly could not continue without it.
Mark your calendars now for two major art events in 2010, which include our Winter Arts and Crafts Festival scheduled for Feb. 12-14, and our 50th Anniversary Artists’ Alpine Holiday scheduled for July 30-Aug. 7. In conjunction with our community Winter Arts and Crafts Show, OCAA is sponsoring a Silent Auction, which will feature many local artists, craftsmen and businesses who have donated unique, original pieces for this auction. We invite you to attend this wonderful event and to support our local artisans. For entry rules for this show, visit our website at www.ourayarts.org for registration information.
Then from July 30-Aug. 7, OCAA will proudly sponsor the 50th Anniversary of the Artists’ Alpine Holiday, one of the oldest juried art shows in the Rocky Mountain region, which attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over the United States. The renowned judge for AAH 2010 is John Cogan, a noted New Mexico realistic artist who specializes in acrylics and whose work is currently displayed in galleries throughout the West and Southwest. Mr. Cogan has won numerous state, national, and international awards, and we are indeed honored to have him officiate for us. Additionally, this stellar AAH celebration will feature many other outstanding events during the nine-day gala such as the exhibition of the OCAA Permanent Collection at the Ridgway Library and other gallery venues, a Judge’s Workshop co-sponsored with Weehawken Creative Arts, a Paint-Out Event on Main Street Ouray, Artists’ Demonstrations, Studio/Gallery Tours, Children’s Workshops co-sponsored with Weehawken Creative Arts and Art Partners, and an Anniversary Concert co-sponsored with the Ouray County Performing Art Guild.
We depend on you, our members, to help us provide exciting cultural adventures into the world of visual arts! Please join now and help make our Golden Anniversary a banner year for the arts in Ouray County.
