James Todd Blevins, 48, of Ridgway, was driving eastbound in a white Ford pickup on Hwy. 62 around 8 p.m. when the vehicle he was driving struck a westbound Ford pickup head-on atop the bridge that spans the Uncompahgre River, according to Ridgway Marshal D.J. Scott. The posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour.
According to Scott’s accident report, Blevins’s eastbound vehicle – traveling at an unknown rate of speed – struck the oncoming westbound truck in the westbound lane.
Blevins, who was traveling with two dogs, was uninjured.
The driver of the westbound pickup was transported to Montrose Memorial Hospital by the Ridgway Ambulance with undisclosed injuries.
Blevins was taken into custody at the scene and was charged with reckless driving; driving on a revoked license as a habitual offender, a Class 6 felony; and suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to Memorial Hospital as a precaution by a Ridgway Marshal’s deputy and then to the Montrose County Jail where he refused a blood and breath test, according to Scott.
Blevins was released on bond on Thursday.
The highway was closed in both directions for about an hour, re-opening just after 9 p.m.
