MONTROSE – The Montrose Regional Airport is on pace to set a record number of enplanements in the airport’s history. As of Oct. 31, the airport had received 81,493 enplanements over the first ten months of 2009. The record for the airport was set in 2007 with 92,583. As the airport continues to strive to enhance operations and flight service, efforts to increase annual enplanements will continue.
To help usher in the ski season and mark the first Saturday all of the airlines and jet service return for winter season, the Montrose Regional Airport will host the annual ski season kick-off party at the airport terminal Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Returning flights include American, Continental, and Delta with non-stop service to Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Newark, and Los Angeles as well as year-round service to Denver on United. The public is invited to attend and enjoy the refreshments and entertainment, which includes live holiday music provided by Paul Nystrom and Sharon Clark.
As of Dec. 7, Montrose Regional Airport has gone to an all jet service. The transition from prop planes to jet aircraft is a welcome upgrade for the Montrose community.
“We are very pleased with the addition of the EMB 145 and the service it will provide to Montrose County and the region,” said Lloyd Arnold, director of aviation. United Express will begin phasing out the Dash 8 aircraft and replacing the service with an EMB145 aircraft. The first increase in the new service is anticipated Dec.7.
The schedule integration will phase in over a 30-day period and will gradually increase with each subsequent schedule change.
