Cornerstone Colorado, has hired Tom Huesgen, superintendent for the Greg Norman-designed private golf course, slated for completion in 2007.

Prior to Cornerstone, Huesgen held the superintendent position at the prestigious Pebble Beach Golf Links where he helped prepare the golf course for the U.S. Open and PGA Tour events. During his eight years at Pebble Beach Co., Huesgen also worked at Spyglass Hill Golf Course and The Links at Spanish Bay on the Monterey Peninsula.

"Only a handful of people in the world have Tom's experience and skill set. We are excited to have him as a part of our Cornerstone team," said Jim Mikula, club general manager of Cornerstone Colorado.

"Overseeing the golf construction at Cornerstone is a very exciting opportunity for me," said Huesgen. "We are creating a golf course that will match the beauty of the surrounding mountains and terrain at Cornerstone."

The 18-hole, Greg Norman-designed golf course will incorporate Norman's "least disturbance" design philosophy. The layout's routing will take full advantage of alpine meadows, distinctive rock outcroppings, and a grove of old-growth aspens. The design will introduce drought-resistant grasses in order to facilitate the project's water conservation and water quality enhancement programs.

Huesgen said he has enjoyed "working within Greg Norman's design approach and incorporating it with Cornerstone's wildlife management plan. Being part of a new community with such vision and commitment to service is quite rewarding."

Cornerstone Colorado is a 6,000-acre residential community and private resort club located 18 miles southwest of Montrose and 45 miles from Telluride. Its championship golf course is planned to open in 2007, as well as a Cornerstone Club with family-oriented, resort-style amenities including two clubhouses, two swimming pools, stables, the Camp Cornerstone activities program and concierge services.

Cornerstone Homesteads range from one-quarter acre to a 200-acre ranch, among more than 3,000 acres of open space.
