Telluride Town Councilmember
In the past three years, Home Safe has delivered 4,015 individuals safely from Telluride to their respective homes within Telluride, Mountain Village, Lawson Hill, Hillside, Eider Creek and Brown Homestead. Virtually every Friday and Saturday night during the ski and summer season at 12:45 a.m. and 2:15 a.m., passengers are picked up in front of the County Courthouse and driven home.
Beginning Memorial Day Weekend and continuing through Blues & Brews weekend, the community service is focused on assisting the community and people who have been partying in Telluride and need a ride home. The service is free to riders. Telluride Express vans will be displaying Home Safe signs when they are at the courthouse to help out.
Over 70 percent of the riders are taken to Mountain Village homes and hotels. This extremely valuable program is supported by the towns of Telluride and Mountain Village, San Miguel County and several local restaurants and liquor license holders. As mentioned earlier, virtually every Friday and Saturday this summer as well as July 4 will have drivers ready to assist.
The Elks Club sponsored the program over the first three years with the amazing Bob Beer acting as the expediter. Beer requested that another organization look at assisting. The Telluride Rotary Foundation stepped up and has taken the entire program over and Roger Wickham is now the coordinator. The local governments thank Beer and the Elks and are looking forward to working with Wickham and the Rotary Foundation. Both of these non-profit organizations are focused on helping the regional communities in every way possible and are greatly appreciated.
This summer's tentative schedule is from May 26-Sept. 16. Tuesday. July 4 has been added and Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9 are non-service nights. Service begins again on Blues & Brews weekend, Sept. 15 and 16, and then takes a much needed rest until around the third weekend in December.
Enjoy yourself in Telluride and then be driven home safely to your door.
