"Warmer weather always brings a refocused interest in health and wellness at the spa, with a significant growth in fitness bookings," said Loren Anderson, Spa Director. "This summer, we decided to amplify our fitness offerings with new classes and a selection of family-oriented programs, as well as extended and multiple classes of our fitness classics. In addition, our popular Pilates program will now be offered for individual sessions, group classes and walk-in requests."
To accommodate the expanded fitness class schedule, the resort has opened a new yoga studio located on the second floor the dedicated "quiet level" of the spa to be used solely for yoga and meditation-based workouts. With its light wood floors and large picture windows, this 1,000-square-foot space provides a serene, Zen-like ambiance ideal for achieving inner calm.
The Peaks Resort's mountain location has always drawn sports and fitness enthusiasts looking for a challenging setting at 9,500 feet above sea level, the body works harder to compensate for lower oxygen levels, boosting overall athletic performance and endurance. The new fitness schedule offers activities that appeal to all levels of athletes from novice to advanced as well as incorporates different themed classes, such as ballet, yoga, Pilates, cycling, stretching and walking.
Some of the new fitness classes available at the Peaks are: Retro Aerobics basic aerobic movements and strength training, slightly updated to fit the 21st century workout. Participants are encouraged to show their personal retro-style with headbands, legwarmers and colorful workout-ware; Balletone classic ballet exercises combined with modern fitness concepts to enhance body awareness, strengthen core muscles and improve overall flexibility; Yoga Ball Basics/Challenge classic yoga postures using the Swiss Ball for core challenge, support and variety; Easy Motion Yoga gentle movements based on traditional Hatha yoga poses flow seamlessly to create a moving meditation that replenishes and restores energy, deeply calms the nervous system and activates lymphatic fluids; Iyengar Yoga taught by a certified Iyengar yoga instructor, this class offers fundamentals of yoga postures and places emphasis on alignment and sequencing movements; Peaks Family Yoga and Family Walk classes tailored for the family dynamic, and the perfect way for families to workout and stay fit together.
In addition to scheduled classes at the spa, the resort offers guided hikes throughout the surrounding San Juan Mountain Range. Groups of up to eight guests per guide can explore nearby waterfalls, ridgelines and fields of wildflowers. Other nearby summer activities include mountain biking, white-water rafting and horseback riding.
Classes are offered from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
The Golden Door Spa at The Peaks also offers an array of facial and body treatments and a wide variety of massage techniques. Amenities include saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis, an indoor lap pool connected by a water slide to the lower indoor/outdoor pool, a Cybex weight room, cardiovascular deck, squash and racquetball courts, indoor climbing wall, and a full-service salon.
