Don Champlin, age 73, of Montrose, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, 2006, at the Montrose Memorial Hospital.

Donald Lee Champlin was born on Feb. 1, 1933, in Montrose, Colo., the son of Henry Clay Champlin and Lila (Ross) Champlin. He spent his childhood in the Wilson Mesa and Naturita area, graduating from Montrose County High School.

On May 27, 1957, Don was united in marriage with Ellarose Ross in Aztec, N.M. Don and Ellarose had the joy and privilege of sharing 49 years of marriage.

Prior to his retirement, Don was employed as a hard rock miner for many years.

Don and Ellarose resided in Sawpit, Colo., before returning to Montrose where they made their home until the time of Don's death.

He was a member of the Montrose Christian Church.

Those who loved Don find comfort in knowing the loving arms of God, which now embrace Don, are the very same arms holding them close in their sadness. Don will be deeply missed.

Surviving family members who are honored to share Don's life include his wife, Ellarose Champlin, of Montrose, Colo.; one son, David Champlin, of Austin, Tex.; three daughters, Diana Hecht and Donna Barns, both of Montrose, Colo., and Mala Kirk, of Kyle, Tex.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Don was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Glenda Lee Champlin, two brothers and a grandson, Terry June.

A memorial service in celebration of Don's life, officiated by Minister Ronnie Hanna, was held on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Montrose Christian Church.
