Mountain Village's newest snowboard-specific shop, Dr. B's, is located in the back of Bootdoctors in the Mountain Village Plaza. The addition of Dr. B's makes Bootdoctors the one-stop-shopping answer for all your skiing and snowboarding needs.
"To provide better services for our customers, we decided to expand Bootdoctors and create a snowboarding-only shop," says Penelope Gleason, who along with husband Bob, owns and operates Bootdoctors.
Dr. B's has taken the concept of providing a "snowboarder-friendly" store and created a space where the culture of the sport is just as significant as the sport itself. Pink shag carpet swathes the benches, bright green Astroturf covers the countertops, and even the interior fixtures have been designed to look like rails from the terrain park. The atmosphere inside the shop is vital to Dr. B's signature style, even though the store is geographically a part of the larger Bootdoctors.
"We're in the business of helping people have fun, so our business should be fun, too. And what's more fun than pink shag?" asks Gleason, the mastermind behind Dr. B's retro-industrial style interior design.
Assisting clients in making the most of their day on the slopes is store manager Nick Ferguson. A professional boot fitter who has worked at the Mountain Village Bootdoctors since 2003, Ferguson is overseeing operations at Dr. B's with an eye toward offering the same quality retail and equipment services for snowboarders as the store provides for skiers.
"Dr. B's was designed with everything having to do with snowboarding. We want to insure that our customers have every opportunity to enjoy their snowboarding experience, and so offer only high-end products," Ferguson says.
Part of Bootdoctors' expansion into better snowboard services includes the purchase of a brand new Montana Crystal Glide wide-width stone sharpener. With the sharpener, technicians are able to provide snowboarders the same high quality tunes as Bootdoctors does for skiers.
Custom snowboard boot fitting is also a specialty of Dr. B's, carrying on its sister store's reputation of quality custom ski boot fitting.
"Snowboarders suffer from toe bang, heel lift – some of the same problems skiers have with their boots that result from sloppy boot fitting," says Gleason. "Great performance on a board starts with a proper boot fit, but many boarders have not realized that yet. Our hope is that we will emerge as a leader in custom boot fitting for snowboarders."
Dr. B's carries snowboards and boots by Atomic, Salomon, K2, Nitro, and, new to the snowboard scene, Venue. The store also has boots by 32 and Vans, and is a Sessions and Section exclusive dealer.
The store is located behind the main Bootdoctors entrance, closest to the ice rink, in the Mountain Village Plaza.
