UPDATE: U.S. Hwy. 550 on Red Mountain Pass Reopened After Accident

RED MOUNTAIN PASS – A semi-truck carrying 14 containers of methanol that rolled onto its driver's side just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31 on U.S. Hwy. 550 near the Idarado Mine atop Red Mountain Pass has been cleared and the highway has been reopened.
The highway was closed just before 10 a.m. when the accident occurred. Ouray County EMS and Squad 11 (extrication) arrived on scene – near mile marker 82 – around 10:20 a.m. One barrel reportedly had a small leak, prompting a Haz-Mat response team from Grand Junction to be dispatched. The containers have a Level 3 flammability.
The vehicle reportedly rolled onto a snowbank. The Colorado State Patrol has evacuated the area up to 1,000 feet.
The driver's identity, as well as his Injuries, are unknown as of Thursday evening. A Life-Care helicopter from Grand Junction arrived in Ouray, 13 miles north of the accident scene, around noon and went en route to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction with the patient at 12:15 p.m.
