RIDGWAY – Lightning struck – Ridgway’s U-14 soccer team, that is – again on Wednesday, Oct. 7, with a big win over Telluride in Placerville, starting with great teamwork when Quinlin McNatt scored a “header pass” from Jack Middleton off a corner kick by Keevah Falconer-McCarty.

Telluride held Lightning to the one goal at half time, but the Lightning offense really went to work in the second half, with two goals scored by Jake Miller-Cunningham, two goals by Falconer-McCarty, one by Nathan Hagemeyer, and a long shot from Q. McNatt. The Lightning defense with players Grace Benasutti, Marten Kendall, Zeke Hietala, Leta McNatt and goalkeeper Derek Hanshaw held on to the shut-out win for a final score of 7-0.

Lightning next traveled to Durango, on Sunday, Oct. 11, for the Copa Del Sol 4-on-4 Tournament. Two five-player teams play in this tournament that requires precision shots into a four-foot goal from outside an eight-foot radius with no goalkeepers. The Lightning players tied their first two games at 2-2 and 4-4, and won the last game 4-3: Four goals were scored by Middleton, three by Miller-Cunningham, two by Q. McNatt and one by Hagemeyer, with assists by Hietala. The Strikers players won one game, 5-3, and lost two games, 2-3 and 1-5: seven goals were scored by Falconer-McCarty and one by Abel Lannan, assisted by Derek Hanshaw, Lannan and L. McNatt.
