SAN MIGUEL COUNTY, Sept. 24, 4:04 p.m. - Aldasoro homeowner Mark Hacken makes a detailed presentation to the Aldasoro Ranch Homeowners Association’s board of directors today at 9 a.m. at the development’s Lawson Hill offices, proposing a homeowner yes-no vote on whether or not to change the development’s no-dogs rule.

“The current policy does not allow my friend who owns a home in Aldasoro Ranch to have his teenage daughters bring their puppies for the Christmas holidays,” says Hacken, “or homeowner families with children who have dogs.”

San Miguel County Assistant Planner Karen Henderson says a dog-policy change at Aldasoro could be effected only by the county commissioners, however. The county Land Use Code does not allow dogs in Colorado Division of Wildlife-designated habitat area, she points out.

“The Land Use Code has the no-dog policy,” Henderson says, “based upon Section 11 of the [Planned Unit Development] agreement with Aldasoro,” which was based on the land’s wildlife habitat designation by the DOW.

Hacken is undeterred. “It’s ridiculous,” he says.

“This policy must be changed, and I intend to work day and night to get it changed!”
