The next few years will be unlike any our town has seen before. We face increasing demands for basic community services, have a considerable backlog of capital construction needs and must continue to find ways to strengthen the local economy. We will address each of these issues while living on a very tight budget. Our businesses and residents have the right to expect that our next Town Council will be fiscally conservative and creative, dedicated to preserving the environmental and social soul of our home town, and committed to mitigating the seasonal swings in our visitor economy. My fresh ideas, my proven commitment to the public process and family-centered approach are the key ingredients that separate my candidacy from the others seeking your vote.
My husband, John Hunt, and I have three children – Will, a graduate of Telluride High School and sophomore at University of Colorado Boulder; Stuart, a junior at Telluride High School; and Joey, a second grader at Telluride Elementary School.
I am currently the Chair of the Telluride Ecology Commission and the Regional Recreation Center Task Force. I sit on the Telluride R-1 School District Long Range Planning Committee. I was Secretary for the Telluride MS/HS PTSO in 2003-2004. I have been a member of the Positive Alternative Team and volunteer for the Telluride Education Foundation. I also attended every Town of Telluride Master Plan meeting in 2005.
I care deeply for this community and believe that the best way to show my support for Telluride is through public service. Having attended many Town Council meetings over the years, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of working with all other members in a cooperative and respectful fashion to achieve a common goal. I enter this race with the encouragement and support of many other working families, who truly believe we can find a sensible and consistent agenda that is centered on the needs of our business community, our children, our local businesses, and all those who have chosen to make their primary or vacation home here.
This is my first campaign for elected public office. I enter this race with unbridled enthusiasm and a firm understanding of the gravity and importance of the position of Town Council Member. Tax relief, affordable housing, recreation, land preservation, public safety, and a sustainable economy will be topics I will consider as I make decisions on Town Council.
I am asking for your vote. I will work hard to keep our community the amazing place it is!
