OURAY, Oct. 5, 11:26 p.m. – The Norwood High School girls’ volleyball team made quick work of non-league Ouray on Tuesday evening, Oct. 2.

The Mavericks nixed the host Trojans’ idea of winning three matches in a row – Ouray opened the season 0-4, but had won two consecutive 1A Mountain League contests over Ridgway and Crested Butte – as they handed Ouray a 25-19, 26-24, 25-18 loss.

The contest was tightly contested, as neither team took more than a four-point lead in any of the three games. The Mavericks rallied from a 23-21 deficit to take an extended game two.

The rematch with the Trojans (2-5) isn’t far off, as Ouray will travel to Norwood to conclude the two-match non-league series on Thursday, Oct. 11. Ouray plays at Telluride today, and then will have five days off to prepare for Norwood.

As for Norwood, the Mavericks will play host to San Juan Basin League-rival Dove Creek today at 5:30 p.m., which is the first of three consecutive home matches. The others are against Ouray and league-foe Nucla Oct. 12.
