When we discovered that they had moved to Telluride full-time, we were amazed as we were moving towards that goal as well. Finding out that Stu had gotten involved in Telluride politics equally amazed us. Running their successful art licensing business and taking on the responsibility of involvement in Telluride politics seemed to us an overwhelming task. We were proven wrong in our assessment as we found that he was able to do both quite well.
Stu’s intentions have always been centered in helping others. When focused on business he tried to help us and other artists better their marketing and business plans; when focused on Telluride, it was for the citizens, not for himself. When we hear people say that he is just trying to build a name and develop himself for future political moves, we respond to that person by saying, “Then you just don’t know Stu.”
When he told us of his run for Mayor, we knew that he would be the right person for the job. His daily calendar is filled with meetings and he focuses on issues that will benefit workers who need housing, arts groups that need funding, child care for families, facilities for children and their education, and developing relationships with everyone to better understand their needs. We know Stu’s passion for studying the issues and being fully present for the responsibilities for which he has committed. A few may want to spin that as a negative, but we know it is genuine.
Some may read this letter and say that because we are friends, of course we support him for mayor. In actuality, we love him and would prefer that he not take on this immense responsibility. But for Telluride’s sake, we know that he is the one that can lead this community for the next four years and in a manner which he has led others in all ventures he has undertaken … fairly, honestly, compassionately, and with unmatched commitment.
We will be going to the polls this week to early vote for Stu.
