“Our newest board members represent many different sectors of our special community and share a comprehensive knowledge about Telluride,” said Paul Major, president and CEO of the Telluride Foundation. “We’re privileged to have four more strong individuals focused on strengthening our community, and we’ll certainly be putting their knowledge and expertise to good use.”
As finance director for the town of Telluride, Beck has directed and coordinated all town financial functions, treasury, budgeting, accounting and collection operations since 2002. Prior to moving to Telluride, Beck was the town accountant for Concord, Mass. (from 1990-2002) and the finance director/treasurer for the City of Marlborough, Mass. (from 1988-1990). Beck currently serves as treasurer for several local organizations including the Telluride Rotary, Mountain and Plains Rotary Youth Exchange and the University Center of San Miguel. She also sits on the San Miguel County Historical Commission and board of the Colorado Trust.
Hill is vice chairman of Blackstone and a member of the board of directors of the general partner; as the head of Blackstone’s hedge-funds operation, he previously served as co-head of its mergers and acquisitions advisory operation before assuming his current role in 2000. Before joining Blackstone in 1993, Hill began his career at First Boston, later becoming one of the cofounders of its Mergers and Acquisitions Department. After heading the Mergers and Acquisitions Department at Smith Barney, he joined Lehman Brothers as a partner in 1982, serving as co-head and subsequently head of Investment Banking. Later, he served as co-chief executive officer of Lehman Brothers and co-president and co-chief operating officer of Shearson Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. Hill is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Center Theatre. He also serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Hill is a part time Telluride resident.
After more than 20 years with Merrill Lynch in New York, Sheridan retired in 1998 from his position as managing director, head of Global Institutional Sales-Debt and Equity, with a production of $4 billion. Prior to that he worked as the managing director of the Municipal Bond business and was responsible for the firm’s public finance, trading and marketing activities for all municipal securities, producing revenues of $450 million. His longevity with the company enabled him to serve in many roles including managing director of Global Fixed Income Sales, managing director of Fixed Income Research, co-head of Financial Futures and Options Business as well spearheading many special projects for the company. Sheridan currently serves on several boards including the Link Community School in Newark, N.J.; the Alliance Global Investors Equity Mutual Funds, and West Meadows North Homeowners Association. Sheridan is a part-time Telluride resident.
Wald, a fulltime resident of Telluride since January 1994 and second homeowner since 1986, is passionate about Telluride lifestyle, sports and outdoor activities. Wald has been involved extensively in nonprofit fund raising in Telluride since 1994, working with a variety of organizations including the Telluride Historical Museum, San Miguel Resource Center, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Telluride Repertory Theatre Company and the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program. Prior to moving to Telluride, Wald was active for many years on the Steering Committee of the Executive Council of New York Philharmonic, the fundraising arm of the orchestra.
The foundation’s Board of Directors is responsible for oversight of the foundation’s governance and grant making and meets biannually, in July and December. Members of the Executive, Grants, Investment and Finance, Development and Audit Committees meet more frequently. The Telluride Foundation exists to create a stronger Telluride community through the cultivation and promotion of philanthropy.
