Experience His Extraordinary Culture and Its Extraordinary Cuisine with This Beyond-Extraordinary Young Man

TELLURIDE – On Monday, August 31, Telluride Elk Lodge 692 has a special Vietnamese guest who will prepare an extraordinary members’ dinner. Dat Nguyen has been part of the Telluride “family” since the Telluride Academy, Mud Butts, visited Vietnam in 2003; three years later, I brought Dat to Telluride and encouraged a generous Telluride donor to allow Dat to attend university in the United States.

Dat, who has been honored by the Writing Excellence Competition from Oakland University, maintains a 3.9 grade point in physics. He is working on a NASA Grant in space-physics research looking at data from satellites and writing computer programs for data analysis for a study of aurora and magnetic storms. There are four students, two assistants and two professors on the research team; Dat is the youngest and the only foreign student.

He now receives scholarships and grants for his continued studies of physical chemistry, modern physics, mechanics and electromagnetic fields, but there remains a $12,500 gap for the following school year.

Did I mention that Dat is a poet, composer, dancer and experienced chef?

This year, Elks members and guests have the opportunity to experience the authentic cuisine of Dat’s homeland and help this extraordinary young man continue his studies.

Please join us Monday, August 31, for this sumptuous feast.

Drinks at 6 p.m.; dinner at 7 p.m.; cost: $40/person

Please RSVP to Harley at 970/728-6345 or hbh@telluridecolorado.net
