TELLURIDE – With today’s tight job market, the Ah Haa School for the Arts is getting practical.
In late September, Ah Haa will offer, in conjunction with the Connecting Point School of Massage, two certification courses.
The courses – Massage Certification and Esthetician Certification – run for approximately six months.
“With the economy still so slow, we want to give folks the opportunity to develop new skills that they will be able to put to use almost immediately,” said Rachel Loomis-Lee, the Ah Haa School’s new executive director.
The Esthetician Certification program will provide comprehensive instruction in skincare techniques, including hands-on experience with facials, waxing, beauty and skin wellness, emphasizing placed on a variety of healing modalities, from Reiki and Ayurvedic therapies to reflexology, aromatherapy and spa techniques. Graduates of this 600-hour 20-credit course are eligible for the State of Colorado’s Board Exam to become Licensed Estheticians.
The 500-hour Massage Certification program will combine a solid base of practical study with hours of supervised hands-on practice, building on Connecting Point’s unique program, ranging from anatomy and physiology to business and ethics to Swedish and advanced massage techniques (including Reiki, Shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy and spa therapies), and is an approved prerequisite for the Massage Certification national exam.
The Esthetician Certification course takes place Monday-Tuesday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., beginning Tuesday, Sept. 22, through March 31 of next year.
The Massage Certification course takes place Wednesday-Friday, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23, through April 2 of next year.
The classes will be held in the Ah Haa School’s newly renovated Depot, at 300 South Townsend in Telluride. The cost of the Esthetician Certification Course is $5,600; the Massage Certification Course is $4,800. Payment plans will be available, said Loomis-Lee, “to make it as easy as possible for all interested people to benefit from these two excellent classes.”
Caycee Ames, the owner and director of Connecting Point, offering state-licensed massage and esthetics courses since 1995, is a certified Reiki Master/Teacher, Yoga Instructor/Therapist and Massage Therapist.
