MONTROSE – As City crews begin the installation of the 2009/2010 Public Art eXperience (PAX) sculpture exhibit in downtown Montrose, locals can catch glimpses of the loaned pieces that will entertain and inspire the community over the coming year.

The final exhibit will be unveiled on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Fourth Annual PAX Sculpture Exhibit, Gala Event and Quickdraw.

“We are grateful for the expertise that city staff have demonstrated over the past four years in displaying the works of art entrusted to us by talented local sculptors,” PAX Committee Chair Caitlin Switzer said. “We encourage everybody to come out to Centennial Plaza on Sept. 11 to help us celebrate the unveiling of this year’s sculptures, and to take part in our exciting, first-ever timed Quickdraw event.”

As local artists work within a pre-set time frame to create works of art that will later be auctioned off, attendees can follow maps to the new sculpture display and enjoy the musical talents of gifted Montrose musician Yvonne Meek.

The drawing for the PAX raffle watercolor, “Black Canyon” by Montrose artist Kurt Isgreen, will also take place during the gala event.

“Kurt is an amazing artist, and ticket sales have been brisk,” Switzer said, “but there are still some raffle tickets left for those who have not yet purchased one. And you don’t have to be present to win.”

Raffle tickets can be purchased at City Hall, or the Montrose Chamber of Commerce.

PAX brochure/maps, funded this year through a grant from Montrose Arts Council, will be available at the gala event for the sculpture walking tour. The Quickdraw begins at 6 p.m., followed by the auction at 7:30 p.m.

The Montrose Public Art eXperience (PAX) is a subcommittee of the City of Montrose and the Montrose Chamber of Commerce. To date, PAX has contributed $20,600 worth of sculptures to our City’s permanent sculpture collection.

Major PAX Sponsors for 2009/2010 include the Montrose Chamber of Commerce, City of Montrose, Four Seasons Investment Advisors, Montrose Arts Council, Montrose Area Merchants Association and the Montrose Daily Press.
