I am pleased that this new group will “demand a high standard of integrity, transparency, honest statements and civil debate.” I want to make it clear that I respect their opinion and the record will show that I have put forth this view from the very beginning.
However, to set the record straight, I am a candidate for the Mountain Village Town Council and I am surprised that the Voters for Ethics and Civility in Government did not interview me in their deliberations on Town Council members.
I would have enjoyed the opportunity to introduce myself, to discuss my qualifications and experience as a local government economic development professional with over 30 years of experience and to share with them my thoughts about Mountain Village. We seem to have common concerns about ethics, transparency and honesty in government.
I believe that the town government decision making process needs to be run more efficiently. I also believe that the town needs a significantly stronger code of ethics than it has today. Finally, I believe that the town must be inclusive in its deliberations.
The divisiveness of the Silverline rec. center project and subsequent referendum election is a perfect example of the problems that this current town government has engendered. It’s amazing to me that the town leaders did not realize that 50 percent of the voters did not agree with their position.
We can and we must do better for the voters and taxpayers of Mountain Village. I support strong ethics with a high standard of integrity, transparency, honesty and civil debate. I have stated these concepts early in my campaign. I’m glad that the Voters for Ethics and Civility in Government agree with me and also support these fine goals.
