TELLURIDE – Looking for something fun yet purposeful to do this weekend? Second Chance Humane Society is putting on its first Paws for Art fundraiser on Saturday, July 18, 4-7 p.m. at the Telluride Conference Center in Mountain Village. The event will feature silent and live auctions, as well as complimentary wine, beer and delectable hors d’oeuvres – all for only $35.

Telluride's DJ Antone will provide lively music for the unique fundraising event, open to all ages, animal lovers, wine and beer lovers, and anyone who loves pets. The auctions offer great opportunities to take home wonderful items of art donated by various local artists, as well as items donated by local upscale retail shops.

The singular Humane Society in the region, Second Chance Humane Society serves Ouray and San Miguel Counties. Currently they operate an animal shelter in Ridgway, augmented by a foster care program that enables the shelter to maintain its no-kill policy for adoptable pets. Second Chance also assists families who can no longer care for their pets, and offers many community prevention and education outreach programs, such as its Spay/Neuter Financial Assistance Program. Although Second Chance is supported in part by its Ridgway thrift shop, it also depends on fundraising events to fully support the animal care operations it provides.

“Although pets will not be attending this event, animal lovers of all kinds will, as well as those just wanting an enjoyable evening in a lively setting that supports a great purpose, says SCHS Executive Director Kelly Goodin about the event. “We are still enlisting volunteers who are interested in supporting this event in exchange for free admittance, which, yes, includes complimentary wine and beer,” she adds.

Tickets to Saturday's event are available at door or by contacting event planner Lisa Katz at 626-2273 or lisa@secondchancehumanesociety.com.
