OURAY – Food-raising is teaming with fundraising at the Wright Opera House. In their ongoing effort to put together fundraising events to purchase the historic building and create a county wide arts center, the Friends of the Wright Opera House are adding a can or box of food to the suggested admission charge to help the Ouray County Food Bank keep their shelves stocked.

“We have a substantial audience for each fundraiser. If each person brings a canned or boxed food item, it can have a significant impact on the dwindling supplies on those shelves," says Friends' President Ralph Huesing. "The project to purchase the Opera House is a community effort. Helping to provide food for our neighbors in these tough economic times is also a community effort. It is a natural thing to team these two efforts and facilitate a way for our patrons to support both.

"We hope it will become a tradition that when we head to the Opera House for an event, it is automatic to bring along the tickets and a contribution to the Food Bank, year round.”

Enthusiastically welcoming the new community partnership, Ouray Food Bank's Frank will arrange for a special container to gather the food as patrons enter the Opera House.

The next fund raising event at the Wright Opera House is on Saturday, July 25, when the Diamond W Wranglers will provide a benefit concert. An optional chuck-wagon dinner with the musicians at The Secret Garden will precede the concert. Tickets for both events will be available within the next week.
