OURAY – “Playing jazz is the constant challenge of being totally in the moment,” says Durango’s Jeff Solon.
The J.S. Trio, composed of Jeff Solon on tenor sax, harmonica and flute, Kevin McCarthy on guitar, and Jeff Sweet on keyboard, will play blues, ballads, and jazz standards to open this summer’s lively Concert in the Park season in Ouray. Presented by the Ouray County Performing Arts Guild, the Father’s Day event takes place this Sunday, June 21, beginning at 4 p.m. at Fellin Park in Ouray.
Solon is a self-taught musician who plays many instruments. He is immersed in the music of jazz, having begun his professional musical adventure as a street performer and playing his way through Central and South America in the 1980s. Since 1985, Solon has performed at many venues and functions in the Durango area as well as the Telluride Mountain Village Sunset Concert Series. He has also won several awards from the Colorado Council on the Arts.
When he’s not playing live music, Solon teaches jazz at Fort Lewis College. He has led three tours for the U.S. Embassy in Latin America, and he has produced and released 13 recordings, including J.S. Trio in 2008.
Grab your family and enjoy some great music from a great talent this Sunday. The concert is free – a gift to the Ouray County community. Bring your own blanket, chairs and perhaps a picnic supper. In case of rain, the concert will be held at Ouray School Multi-Purpose Room on 7th Ave.
