The three candidates included Hoffer, Ben Tisdel and Keith Meinert. The final votes for each candidate were 142, 103 and 87, respectively.
Hoffer has lived in Silverton since 1976. He serves on the San Juan County Historical Society Board and the Board of Directors for the Durango Railroad Historical Society. Hoffer is a retired electrical engineer and has been an SMPA boardmember for the past four years.
Rube Felicelli of Mountain Village will replace Tony Forrest as the District Five Director Representative. He ran unopposed for the position. Felicelli has lived in Mountain Village for 16 years and has served on the Mountain Village Town Council as mayor and mayor pro-tem. He has a background in retail and specializes in outdoor merchandise. Currently, Felicelli is employed as a realtor with Telluride Real Estate.
The 2008 Annual Meeting of members was held at the Ouray Community Center after weather forced a location change. The business meeting began at 10 a.m. with 97 registered members in attendance.
Wes Perrin, SMPA President, and Kevin Ritter, SMPA General Manager, presented to the members the state of the co-op and the vision for the future. President Perrin’s portion included an interactive session where members responded to a variety of questions about SMPA.
Members in attendance also received a complimentary gift bag filled with an energy efficiency kit, the 2008 Annual Report and other information. All registered members were eligible to win door prizes that ranged from $50 to $1,300 in value. The grand prizes included a 42-inch EnergyStar HD-LCD Vizio Television and an EnergyStar Frigidaire Front Loading Washing Machine and Dryer.
