TELLURIDE – This summer’s University Centers of the San Miguel class schedule is diverse to offer something for everyone. Accredited courses through Mesa State College include Nutrition: the Sense and Science and Introduction to Permaculture. Early Childhood Education Curriculum Development is offered through Colorado Northwestern Community College, and continuing education classes include: Bear Creek Vortex, French for Travelers, Spanish 1B, Excel Level 1 and 2, Website and Business Design, and The Financial Crisis.

Nutrition: the Sense and Science will be taught by Sandy Wickham, MS, for one credit, meeting on Wednesday evenings from June 24 through July 29. Introduction to Permaculture meets for three evenings and two day trips to local farms between July 20 and 30, also for one credit. The evening classes will be taught by Kris Holstrom, MS, in Telluride, and by Robyn Wilson, MA, ME, in Naturita. Both groups will get together for the farm trips, which include hands-on projects. These courses may also be taken for non-credit.

The Telluride Institute’s Bridal Veil Living Classroom is also waiting approval for Mesa State College credit (registration for this class ends May 31). Accredited courses are tax deductible and financial aid may be available.

The next class in the series of Early Childhood Education is Curriculum Development, for three credits. Mary Alice Wagner, MA, is teaching this course most Monday evenings from June 8 through Aug. 24. This class is required for the ECE Group Leader and Director Technical Certificates through Colorado Northwestern Community College.

Bear Creek Vortex, taught by Eric Nepsky, MA, on June 13 is a four-hour slow hike with the discussion of Eastern philosophy, beauty and place. French for Travelers is a one evening class with Emily Wilbert on June 25, and all levels are welcome. Spanish 1B, taught by Marion Bristow, is the second section of beginning Spanish, offered July 7 through Aug. 25. (If you question your Spanish level, please contact Robyn Wilson at UCSM.) Microsoft Excel Level 1 (June 24- July 8) and Level 2 (Aug. 5-26) will be taught by Kathy Schroers, MS.

Website and Business Design is a new class taught by Ryan Wilson, MA, ME, in Ridgway. This class will focus on the program of Photoshop and Dreamweaver and students will leave with tangible products such as a brochure, website, business cards, etc. Another new class appropriate to the times is The Financial Crisis, taught by Judith Thompson, MBA. This class will examine what led up to the current global economic situation and how to manage through it.

UCSM holds classes throughout the San Miguel Watershed through in-kind donated space by county and town governments, libraries, schools, and local organizations. For more information, contact UCSM at 369-5255 and consult the website www.ucsanmiguel.org.
