Man Burned in Ridgway House Fire

RIDGWAY, Nov. 20, 1 p.m. – A Ridgway man was transported to Montrose Memorial Hospital after suffering burns to his hands and arms on Tuesday, Nov. 20 after he dragged a burning lounge chair from his Ridgway home.

The identity of the man could not be confirmed. He was transported via the Ridgway Ambulance.

The Ridgway Volunteer Fire Department was paged out and arrived on scene within five minutes of the call, which was a report of a structure fire at 269 South Laura St. at around 11:20 a.m. Upon arrival, a green lounge chair was engulfed in flames on the sidewalk just outside of the residence. Chief Dan Bartashius was first on scene and quickly extinguished the flames.

The house did not catch fire and the fire department cleared the scene just before noon. The exact cause of why the chair caught fire has not been determined. There were not other injuries reported.

Responding along with the RVFD and the Ridgway Ambulance were two Ouray County EMS medics and Marshal D.J. Scott and Sgt. A.M. Paquin of the Ridgway Marshal’s Department.
