Jim was a resident of Manalapan, FL and Charlevoix MI. He was born July 16, 1918 in Detroit, MI, where he met his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia (Jinny) Fisher Campbell, while he served 55 months duty as a major in the USAF during World War II, and she was volunteering for the USO. After the war, he had a successful career beginning with Rinshed-Mason (Inmont) in 1946 and later became Director of Automotive Inmont Division United Technology which was subsequently sold to BASF Corporation. He retired from the Inmont Division United Technology in 1986. Jim also served as director of Providence Hospital, Newberry State Bank, Watch Inc, Hospice South Guild Palm Beach County & was Chairman of Cars Inc, Lakeland; FL. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, sports enthusiast, and philanthropist, for whom the James K. Campbell Baseball Field is named at the University of Detroit Mercy. He was a member of the Detroit Athletic Club, Bloomfield Hills Country Club, Huron River Hunting & Fishing Club – Farmington, MI, Everglades Club (Palm Beach, FL), Palm Beach Yacht Club & Club Limited. He attended St Agnes, Visitation, Epiphany Schools; University of Detroit High graduating St Mary’s of Redford in 1936. Jim was University of Detroit Class of 1942. Michigan born and a resident of Bloomfield Hills & Charlevoix, Jim and Jinny loved & frequented Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Fisher Campbell, son Dennis James Campbell, parents, J. Ray Campbell of Owosso, MI and Canadian mother Hester McGrath Campbell, brothers Francis Campbell and Robert Campbell, and beloved nephew, Timothy Welch. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Campbell, daughter-in-law Martha Campbell, and granddaughters, Taylor Campbell, Tori Campbell, and Tristan Campbell, all of Telluride, CO; sisters Patricia Campbell of Beverly Hills, MI, Anne Welch of Lakeland, FL, and many nieces and nephews, to whom he was more like a father, rather than an uncle. Jim Campbell was the patriarch and generous benefactor for his entire extended family, who lovingly called him "Tops" and "The Don". His family and friends will always treasure the memory of the many family celebrations he orchestrated at his summer home in Charlevoix, MI, and Christmas and Spring with him in Florida.
