Parking Lot Sale, Block Party June 13

NORWOOD – As part of its second annual Block Party Celebration, the Wright Stuff Community Foundation is putting on a 5k/10k running/walking race in Norwood. The Saturday, June 13 race, which will begin and end at the Uncompahgre Medical Center, is a fundraiser for the programs of Prime Time Early Education Center, serving children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. A one-mile fun run/walk/bicycle ride for kids and families is also planned.

Both the 5k and 10k races will follow out-and-back routes on county roads south of Norwood. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 8:30 a.m. The registration fee is $25 until June 7, when the fee goes up to $35. All participants will receive a goody bag of products and prizes will be awarded for various categories.

After the 10k, racers will be directed to the “Pig Palace” at the San Miguel County Fairgrounds for an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m., followed by the fun run, taking place on a closed portion of Summit St. at 11 a.m. The fairgrounds is also the location for the Wright Stuff parking lot sale, which will run in conjunction with the first Norwood farmers market of the season, 9 a.m.-noon. Those wishing to sell wares may contact the Wright Stuff to rent a space. Donated, gently-used kids’ gear and clothing is being accepted and will be sold that day as well, as a benefit to Prime Time.

After the fun run, the second annual Wright Stuff Block Party kicks into gear with live music by Fall Baby, refreshments and kids’ activities, including a bounce house, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, and more.

“It was so nice seeing the community come together and have some fun at a family-friendly celebration of the Wright Stuff at last year’s 10th anniversary celebration,” said Wright Stuff Executive Director Andrya Brantingham of the 2008 event. “I can only hope this year's party will be just as much fun, if not more.”

Race registration forms and more information are available at www.wrightstufffoundation.org or by calling 327-0555, ext. 11. Volunteers are needed for the race, parking lot sale and block party.
