TELLURIDE, Nov. 7, 12:02 p.m. – By a margin of 15 votes, Telluride Councilmember Stu Fraser beat Terry Tice on Tuesday to become Telluride’s next mayor.

“I had no idea it was going to come down to that,” Fraser said Tuesday night after the narrow results were announced. “You put yourself out there and your thoughts out there and you hope you get accepted. I can’t believe it.”

Fraser took 365 votes with Tice tallying 350 votes. Candidate Chance Leoff received 81 votes. Tice made a brief appearance Tuesday night at Fraser’s election night party at Restorante Rustico and to briefly shake Fraser’s hand. Fraser thanked him for his campaign.

“Terry Tice ran admirable and honest campaign,” Fraser announced at the party. “He was an honest candidate who spoke out on his beliefs and I want to thank him for that.”

Telluride’s Ballot Issue 2A, which would have issued a $5 million bond for main street improvements, lost 575-213. Get more in-depth coverage of the 2007 elections in Friday’s edition of The Telluride Watch.
