After accepting the fact that here in the city of Ouray it is quite difficult to grow our own food, we have realized an opportunity to invite growers to our little city and offer up their products for us to enjoy.
We are moving along rapidly with our project and have commitments from a number of farmers and producers. We are looking forward to having fresh grown vegetables and fruits and pasture raised meats available. The market will run Thursdays, 2-6 p.m., from the first week of June through the last week of September. Though not yet finalized, the market may potentially use the Ouray Elks Park as a location.
Our main intention is to support regional growers and producers and provide a service to the city of Ouray. Although the people involved are all volunteers, we are in need of some financial support to help cover the costs of advertising, website design, insurance, and space rental. We will be using Ouray residents for advertising and website design, keeping donations in the community. The insurance is provided by the Colorado Farmers Market Association, which is a Colorado-based company.
