OURAYFour applicants submitted letters of interest by Thursday afternoon’s deadline to fill a two-year vacancy on the Ouray City Council.

According to Ouray City Clerk/Treasurer Kathy Elmont, applicants include Bette Maurer, Paul Sunderland, Sara Sharpe and Carl Cockle.

Council will select one of these applicants at its upcoming meeting on Monday, Feb. 3, to fill a vacancy created when Councilor Michael Underwood resigned earlier this month.

According to Mayor Pam Larson, each applicant will be given three to five minutes to stand before council and speak about why they feel they are a strong candidate for the position. Council will then discuss the merits of the applicants and make an appointment. All deliberations must be held in open session.

The appointee will serve for the remainder of Underwood’s four-year term, which expires in Nov. 2015.
