In a time of reflection as 2013 has come to an end, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the men and women of law enforcement in our area.
Early this past summer, Ouray found itself in need of assistance while we rebuilt our police department. From the first day, our Ouray County Sheriff’s department, Montrose Police and Sheriff’s departments, as well as officers from our many surrounding towns began to offer assistance, covered every shift, and protected our community. The professionalism and commitment was impressive and the contributions of Commander Gene Lillard, who acted as our interim chief, was invaluable.
The reminder of how fortunate we are to have so many quality men and women who serve and protect all of us will not be forgotten. We thank every officer who came to assist us, and we thank all for getting us to the point we are today as our Chief Justin Perry works toward a department that is already exceeding our expectations. As we head into the New Year, we encourage all to reach out and thank the men and women in local law enforcement for all that they do.
