MONTROSE – The Montrose Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors announced this week that Thomas Wade Nichols has accepted its offer to become MDDA’s new executive director.

Nichols was selected from an initial list of 38 applicants for the position. He will begin his duties in late November.

Nichols has over 25 years of experience providing marketing, technical assistance and business development support to various organizations, including seven years as executive director for downtown organizations throughout North Carolina. He was most recently employed with the Uptown Shelby Association in Shelby, N.C.

He is very familiar with the national Main Street program and has extensive experience working with Main Street committees and partner organizations such as local chambers of commerce. Nichols earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and has received additional training at the National Main Street Center.

MDDA board members expressed excitement about Nichols’ considerable experience with downtown organizations and, particularly, with Main Street programs.
