I have had the privilege of living in Telluride since 1994. When I moved to town two weeks after my college graduation, I never imagined that almost 20 years later I would be raising my own family in this special place. The fact that our children have access to an incredible education through the public school is one of the many things that make Telluride a wonderful place to live.
Telluride has the best public high school in the state but unfortunately many children in our surrounding communities and other parts of Colorado are falling behind as their public schools do not offer the type of quality education all children deserve.
We have an opportunity to change that by voting yes for Amendment 66 on the ballot in November.
We get fundamental reforms to our education system with Amendment 66 and 30 percent of the new money will go towards expanding early education including full-day kindergarten and pre-k. Our schools do a remarkable job despite the state funding shortfalls, but we can and should do better. We need to put the next generation on a path to success. All Colorado kids deserve access to a quality education, whether they live in Telluride or Trinidad, in Douglas County or Dove Creek.
Please join me in voting yes for our kids and Amendment 66.
