Editor:

We invite you to attend a seminar on weed management in livestock and agricultural areas to be presented on Thursday, Oct. 24, between the hours of 5 and 6 pm at the Redvale Community Center.

Weed control in both Montrose and San Miguel Counties has been an issue for many years, especially on private land. The San Miguel and Montrose County Weed Control Programs, in cooperation with Van Diest Supply,  has designed this seminar in order to provide assistance to the landowners and homeowners of both San Miguel and Montrose Counties with information and options to address their weed control issues.

As I am sure you realize, Hoary Cress (Whitetop) and Russian Knapweed are the main culprits. We will be presenting application methods, timing, and product usage information in order to assist you, the homeowner, landowner, agricultural or livestock producers, with options on how to most effectively control your weed problems.

These options will be more cost-effective in the long term, result in better production, better product and more income potential. They will also be structured on a lower use rate of chemicals, which is better for the environment overall and will create a much healthier and more pleasing landscape for the homeowner.

Whether you have a small home, or own large acreage, we can provide tips on how to make your property both healthy and attractive, with either natural flora or the lawn you always wanted.

Refreshments and raffle of two- and five-acre treatments will be provided thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. Questions are welcomed during the discussion. Come in, meet your friends and neighbors, and lets all work together to bring this area back to its full potential and the beauty that brought us here in the beginning!

We look forward to seeing you there!
