MONTROSE – Disabled army veteran Jeremiah Aguilar, the owner of the American Allaunt canine named Dutch, was found not guilty of owning a vicious animal. Dutch dog has been released to Aguilar from Montrose Animal Control.

A two-day trial concluded last Friday evening, after the three-woman jury took less than one hour to reach a verdict, a courtroom witness told The Watch

Aguilar had surrendered Dutch in June; in February, he appealed a municipal court conviction, finding him guilty of violating the city's vicious animal code.

Last November, Montrose Animal Control officers were notified by Montrose Memorial Hospital staff that the fiancé of Jeremiah Aguilar's brother was being treated for "deep bite wounds "to her buttock, thigh and

hand" that severed an artery and caused a compound fracture to the middle finger of her right hand. A phone call seeking comment from  Aguilar was not returned as of press deadline.
