Last year nearly 60 distinctive vehicles from four states gathered for the festival, and organizers are planning for at least as many this year, with more activities scheduled for participating drivers/owners. The show is open to all makes, models and vintages of cars and trucks.
A special Friday evening People’s Choice show will be held 5-9 p.m. in Ridgway Town Park and will feature a benefit barbecue dinner hosted by the Ouray Elks Lodge, live music, door prizes, and the dramatic “Glow in the Park” when the balloons light up the evening as the sun sets.
In addition to the chance to win the People’s Choice Award on Friday, owners are also invited to show their cars at the participants’ judged show on Saturday for a chance to win one of several awards created by John Billings, maker of the prestigious Grammy.
Other benefits for participating drivers include complimentary meals, an event shirt and special “goodie bag.” Drivers traveling more than 50 miles to Ridgway are eligible to receive a complimentary room (as available) on Friday night.
Anyone interested in showing a vehicle can get detailed information and entry forms at www.ridgwaycolorado.com, click on Balloons ’N’ Varoooms. Questions can be directed to the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce at 626 5181. The deadline for entries is April 17.
