I appreciate the attention to boundary management at the ski area and the recent article by Martinique Davis, but there was one statement I’d like to clarify. Upper Bear Creek. isn’t closed to the public. We rescinded the closure order about three years ago. However, I made a decision to remove three access points along Gold Hill Ridge that provided entry to the area. There’s still one access point near Palmyra Peak that can drop skiers into the upper basin. People are free to enter upper Bear Cr. from that access point, from Ophir, down from La Junta Basin, Alta Lakes or any other route they choose. The Forest Service is simply trying to work with the landowners to discourage trespass.
Boundary management is a complex issue, and certainly a tough one to get your arms around. It’s got lots of moving parts!
