Must Purchase Tickets Before Jan. 31

MONTROSE – It’s an unbeatable deal for skiers and riders living in Phoenix, Ariz. and Oakland, Calif. It’s also unbeatable for those living on the Western Slope who may need a warm getaway.

Thanks to a collaborative effort between the Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization, the Telluride Ski Resort, the Telluride Tourism Board and Crested Butte Mountain Resort, two-for-one airline tickets are now being offered by Allegiant Air to and from the Montrose Regional Airport.

Last month, Allegiant Air began offering low-cost fares from Phoenix starting as low as $46.99 one-way ($93.98 round-trip). Flights from Oakland start at $49.99 one-way ($99.98 round-trip). Two-for-one tickets on those already low ticket prices are now available must be purchased on or before Jan. 31 for travel by April 3, 2013.

“To my knowledge, there is no program in the industry where travelers can get two-for-one airline tickets and skiing opportunities at two of the country’s top resorts,” said Michael Martelon, president and chief executive officer of the Telluride Tourism Board. “It’s unheard of to have this kind of option, and we’re excited to be able to offer it.”

The two-for-one airfares, along with the collaboration of Telluride Ski Resort and Crested Butte Mountain Resort launching the Ultimate 6 Pass, a six-day pass that is good for three days of skiing and riding at each resort, skiers and riders can now use the centrally located Montrose Regional Airport for their travel arrangements and have the opportunity to ski both areas in one vacation.

“We are seeing this as a great first effort toward more collaboration,” TMRAO Chief Operating Officer Matt Skinner said. “All of these groups have energy and investment into these flights and are doing everything they can to make it succeed.”

Allegiant Air services to the Montrose Regional Airport began, for the first time, on Dec. 15, opening skier and rider markets in both Oakland and Phoenix to Telluride and Crested Butte.

“It is up and running, and it did fairly well through December,” Skinner said. “But we want to hit it out of the park, and so we started putting together ideas. We are seeing an uptick as awareness of these flights gets out there and we are definitely seeing positive growth on sales.”

Skinner reiterated that while he hopes this unbeatable two-for-one deal will bring more visitors to the region, locals living on the Western Slope shouldn’t miss out on the deal as well.

“We want to make sure that people understand that this is available going both directions,” Skinner said. “This is open to all of our locals here on the Western Slope.”

The offer is based upon availability. For a complete flight schedule, visit allegiantair.com or call 866/237-5341 for more information.
