I was dismayed to hear that (the Board of Telluride’s Wilkinson Library is) going to close the library on Sundays. I understand the need to meet budgetary shortfalls, however, closing on Sundays is an insult to those of us who work and may not be able to come to the library on weekdays. Opening earlier on weekdays – during typical workday hours – does not serve the community, certainly not those of us who must work.
I urge you to reconsider this pennywise/pound foolish solution, especially without obtaining input from those you serve. Were there any other strategies considered? This community is filled with creative individuals and my guess is there are other possibilities that would enable the library to meet its budget goals and serve the needs of your patrons. This community has been incredibly supportive of the library district.
Please listen to those you serve before you make a decision to close on Sundays.
