Waygu Beef Yakitori

Sushitini, Montrose

228 E. Main Street, Montrose, 970/240-1100

While fresh fish is the main attraction at this popular Montrose sushi restaurant, chef Nick Rinne’s tender, juicy American-raised Kobe beef is marinated in a Jack Daniels sauce and then grilled. It’s served with addictive grilled sishito peppers and a sinus-clearing mustard sauce. All together it’s a small plate full of spice, flavors and textures – the perfect start to a full-on sushi dinner, or a meal all on its own.

Price: $5

Meat and Cheese Charcuterie

Arroyo Fine Art and Wine Bar, Telluride

Complementing the quiet visual splendor atmosphere of this fine wine/fine art gallery is the plate of fine cheeses and meats (some locally sourced from James Ranch), crackers and vegetables. Enjoy a wide selection of wines and the contemporary Southwestern feel to Telluride’s first wine bar.

Price: $7 and up, available in small, medium

and large portions

Chili Cheese Fries

RNR Sportsbar, Montrose

35 N. Uncompahgre, Ave. Montrose, 970/765-2029

This just might be the tastiest guilty pleasure in the Uncompahgre Valley. The basket of fries isn’t exactly small, but the flavor and satisfaction is huge, with your choice of a red or green chili topping (keep it simple; go for half-and-half) that’s smothered again, this time with a load of shredded cheese. Add a cold beer and your favorite team on one of the sportsbar’s 10 50-inch HD TVs or two 120-inch HD big screens and it’s game on.

Price: $4.99, small; $6.99, large

Mi Lindo Michoacan, Montrose

710 N. Townsend Ave., Montrose, 970/249-5266

Mi Lindo Michoacan has a taco menu all its own. Choose from 20 fillings including asada, chile verde, adobada, spicy shrimp and bacon, fish in red sauce, lengua, and rich cachete (cheek). Grab five or six of these street-style tacos for a full meal, or just one or two for a quick snack. Served on freshly-made tortillas and garnished with chopped lettuce, fresh onions, marinated onions and lime wedges. For a crunchy variation, try the ceviche aquachile, made with a mix of spices and shrimp, served on a crunchy tostada.

Price: Starting at $1.50
