RIDGWAY – The Ridgway Chautauqua Society, operators of the Sherbino Theater, have announced that a Ridgway resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has pledged $25,000 in matching funds to help the Sherbino Theater complete its renovation plans and continue on its path toward the purchase of Ridgway’s Community Theater.

“We’ve been working incredibly hard to build this resource for the community,” said Pat

Willits, chair of the Ridgway Chautauqua Society. “We hoped it was only a matter of time before people began to notice how important our mission is.”

The donor has promised $25,000 in dollar-for-dollar, matching funds, meaning that every dollar that is donated to the Sherbino Theater by December 31 will be matched, up to $25,000.

In less than a year, the Ridgway Chautauqua Society has accomplished much in the way of interior renovations, including a new state-of-the-art film projection system, new stage and theater lighting and wiring, the removal of antiquated structures, the improvement of the bar area and a massive amount of paint and drywall improvements. In addition, the theater has launched a new website, events calendar, social media and public relations campaign.

The theater has an incredible lineup of award- winning film this month – from High Ground, telling the story of 11 wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan to climb the 20,000-foot Himalayan giant Mount Lobuche to music by the Warblers and Milemarkers. In addition to film and music, the Sherbino is planning a lecture series; poetry nights; weekday dance, acting and theater classes and open-mic events.
