What I love about election season in Telluride is that it is local and global all at once. We are fortunate that we can know the candidates and can have easy access to their opinions and values. Each candidate who has put his or her name forward deserves our heartfelt thanks, for it is only because of this participation that democracy works.
When deciding who I am voting for in the commissioners’ race, I want someone who shares my values regarding the preservation of the environment, someone who understands that our little corner does not exist in a vacuum, the San Miguel runs through the county, but it is a living system and needs our concern throughout its journey. Climate change brings wildfires and the deterioration of the forests, these challenges must be faced.
I want someone who will listen to all the citizens of the county, who will study the issues, who works hard.
It’s asking a lot. That means I want someone who will continue to listen and seek guidance after the election as well.
I am voting for Dan Chancellor and Elaine Fischer.
